I think originally the case turned out to be the result of some kid with an overactive imagination, and then it exploded with copycat reports and probably at least a few actual people in clown suits looking for a laugh.

You know, I have been reading news about this, and I really think that your culture is exceptional. I mean, I imagined how it would be to dress as a creepy clown one night and go on a rampage scaring the neighbourhood (without actually hurting anyone, that's not the point). That could never ever happen here, or anywhere else apart from the US. But it would be the funniest thing to do in my opinion. And I'm not talking about halloween, I'm talking about some random night when you feel like becoming somewhat of an urban legend. I mean the satisfaction you get when you know you traumatized someone, and he's gonna take pictures of you before you vanish into the shadows or something, and he's gonna go tell his friends about it. That's really cool.
But then again, it would take some kind of mental issue to do this elsewhere. I mean, in the US I figured this is not really that big of a deal. But here, yeah. I wouldn't. Probably nobody would either.
